This event included the top 300 Leaders from around the world!
29 teams each built a custom robot racer using 50 additional parts, plus parts obtained while trading with other teams. Five teams negotiated their way to get upgraded to Monster Wheels by trading for specific parts packages (4) or by collecting/trading for the most “race cars” (1). An additional team traded to get the most of one color of race cars and earned “2nd Pole Position”.
We set-up two tracks to divide the races into 14 teams on one track and 15 teams on the other. This created a start line that consisted of 2 x 2 and 7 deep (pictured above). The heaviest robots are positioned in front and the lightest in the back. So fast robots have to navigate past bigger robots, often entangled with each other. This not only encourages teams to build bigger robots and be more creative, but also makes it to tough to win with a faster robot.
The top robots from each qualifying track met for a two-lap finale, winner take-all, race to determine our champion. Two laps and a minimum of 2 drivers were the parameters. The finish was thrilling with several of the top racers vying for supremacy! In the end, team 15 conquered in a photo finish to be the ultimate champion!
