Teamwork Tools
Teamwork tools are techniques, skills, and concepts that help people to be better teammates and teams to become better at performing. Check out our new video series that gives some great insight into improving teamwork in the workplace. This video introduces the concept of The Box as the foundation for improving teamwork, leadership, problem solving, building trust, and building towards becoming the ideal team.
Teamwork tools can be used incorrectly to categorize and over-generalize people in the workplace. Once you learn and apply personality styles, leadership styles, values clarification, generational models and behavioral habits, and other identified ways to understand human behavior in the workplace, it is natural and easy to slip into “over categorizing” other people. If we take an honest and objective assessment of ourselves and compare this assessment to the models mentioned we would find some overlap and some outliers; some descriptions which do not necessarily describe us even though we fit into the category of the model. Well that is true of everyone.
The flip side is to rationalize away the value of models and categories because we are afraid or reluctant to admit that all of us do fall into some predictable behavioral categories. When we as human beings with human brains and human emotions hear feedback or information we don’t like our first instinct is to question the source and in other ways discredit the information. “It doesn’t apply to me” syndrome. The models are highly descriptive and accurate for a reason. The main reason is that humans are absolutely influenced by their environment. This is the basis of all Psychology!
We share generational similarities because we were impacted by the same world events, trends, and issues during the same developmental years. We are absent certain memories that others share, and we have have other memories that younger generations will never have. We can’t help that part of being the same.
