Generations Technology Habits from Millennials to Traditionalists
This video discusses generations technology use, how technology has influenced each generation from Millennials to Traditionalists, and the corresponding habits that have evolved from these influences.
Technology today is ubiquitous appearing even in our refrigerators! We google things, email and text, Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook daily. The fact that these nouns are verbs speaks to the seamless integration into our lives. On the horizon, and not so far off, we can see self driving cars, robots cleaning our homes, and Matrix like virtual reality in a comfortable form factor. Generations technology habits, comfort levels, and overall use are somewhat influenced by our generation but not completely.
For example, Gen X people grew up in an age when we typed term papers on a typewriter, no one had a cell phone, and computers were literally almost exclusively for “nerds;” and trust me it was not fashionable to be a nerd in “our day.” Yet today many, if not most, Gen X peopleĀ use technology on a daily basis and have completely integrated it into their lives. Almost everyone I know from my generation has a smart phone, and most of those people are on Facebook. I can’t think of single person I know without an email address.
Have Millennials grown up with technology their entire lives? The answer is yes. Yet how much of a difference does it and will it make? One interesting question to ask in a group of cross generational people is “What technological invention or improvement had the greatest impact on modern society? The TV, the computer, the smartphone are all excellent candidates and each from a different generation. I would argue none of these would have been developed, at least not yet, without the advent of the elevator.
