Apple Robot Team Event in SF Bay Area
Apple computer is an undisputed champion of technology and innovation, so an apple robot team event has to be top notch to keep them engaged. Our robot specialist Doran built Apple a custom robot as an enticing prize for the winning team. As you can see from the picture he based it on the Spinning Pin Wheel, also known as the Spinning Wait Cursor, the Spinning Beach Ball, and the Spinning Pizza of Death. This particular robot can pop balloons on other robots at a blurring rate as the arm moves both horizontally and vertically and the wheel spins continuously.
The tea, versus team tournament was highly structured, and extremely competitive. Each person from each team battled a person from the other team in a best of 5 robot head-to-head battle. The team that wins the most robot battles wins and moves on, while the other team was eliminated. Each round became more and more competitive as total victory grew closer. The final round felt like a robotic Roman Coliseum with people cheering wildly as one robot or the other delivered a smashing blow, or a victory was had by one of the competitors. The final battle anointed our first Apple champion in a hard fought 3-2 finish.
Immediately following the team versus team competition, and after some fixing and tuning up, all 14 teams entered into a multi-bot free-for-all battle where the last survivor was the winning team. To witness such a spectacle first hand is dizzying, with delight at the excitement and engagement of the participants and with sheer kinetic energy as robots smash into each other and battle for sole survivor status.
In addition to a stellar competition and 14 robots that held up through two enduring competition formats, Apple had one team that finished 2nd all time in the robot build competition. Their time of just over 35 minutes would have beaten the previous record set by Facebook, which was defeated earlier this month in New York by a group from Ethicon. All in all, a pretty solid day from one the world’s best companies, on a fabulous day in Blackberry Farm, Cupertino, California!
