Bot Battle Robot Team Building with Apple Yields Exciting Battles!
The team pictured here finished with a commendable Bot Battle Robot Team Building build time of 38:23, especially considering they had only 4 people to start and 5 for about 1/2 the build. As would be expected from a group of engineers from Apple the builds went smooth for all the teams. The robots looked somehow better, cleaner, and more elegant than usual?
The battles were spectacular. Three amazing things stood out that I hadn’t seen before viewing hundreds, if not thousands, of bot battles.
Sometimes you have two competitors that seem really evenly matched on their experience and adeptness with the robot fighting. Other times not so much: you may have one combatant who just looks more confident and better able to maneuver the robot. Such was the case today in an early battle that took a decidedly unexpected turn. With the natural driver closing in on a victory, the “less adept” looking driver pulled what could be described as a “axles pull double balloon pop to end the match!” Out of no where they grabbed the front axle with the attack arm and pulled the robot in such a way as to simultaneously pop both wins and gain an immediate victory! This moved has now been documented.
The next amazing battle thing I saw was the fastest victory ever at 2.5 seconds. The robot rushed the combatant, slipped in behind it, and popped both balloons before I could finish saying “Leeeeet’s Battle!” Let it be noted fastest win ever at 2.5 seconds. Note to BatteBots contestants, I would suggest this same technique when battling Tombstone such as Bite Force did in the 2015 finals.
The final completely amazing battle thing I saw today was one robot take down two robots in one move for a 4 point take down during the all-bot melee. Never before in Bot Battle Robot Team Building have I seen one robot take down multiple robots. A first in combat, and let it be noted here. We will see how long it takes for a one to three take down to take place.
A huge thank you to Apple for bringing us out to battle and team build!
