Tinder High Tech Team Offsite Sparks Fun
High Tech Team Offsite with robots is our most popular team building event in the bay area right now.
Tinder is an amazing tech company and an excellent example of filling – what in retrospect – is an obvious need. The founders of Tinder hatched the idea at USC while studying Internet entrepreneurship. Tinder – “dry, flammable material, such as wood or paper, used for lighting a fire”– filled a need in social media sites to meet strangers, rather than people we already know (e.g. Facebook).
It is based on the observation that we are much more comfortable approaching people who we know want us to approach them. Therefore, the app pioneered a double-opt in system for meeting new people. Add to that it was the first swipe app – now an incredibly popular technology – and an instant hit was formed.
Today tinder boasts 1.6 billion swipes per day, 1.5 million dates per week, 20+ billion matches, and operates in over 190 countries. Not bad for an app that started in 2013!
We had a wonderful robot team building event with many of their talented technical crew – the people behind an app that operates around the globe, in different languages, different time zones, and is still growing in popularity!
4 teams squared off to build the robot faster than the other teams. The competition was tight with all 4 teams finishing under 45 minutes, and within 2 minutes of each other.
The battles were the highlight of the event. We started off with team versus team battles where each person had a chance to call out another work-friend and battle them head to head. After multiple exciting takedowns and dozens of balloons popping we transitioned to the all-bot melee and entered a 5th rogue robot and “rogue team delta” into the mix.
The all-bot melee was great as we continuously resurrected broken attack arms, displaced electronics, and wheels popped or knocked off! We managed to get a full 45 minutes and three melees before time ran out – much to the relief of the wounded robots!
A huge thank you to the talented folks at Tinder for a really fun event, and some spectacular battles!
