Altium Live Yields Team Robot Building World Record!
Impedance Mismatch (pictured above) set a new Team Robot Building World Record at Altium Live of 23:50 (twenty-three minutes and fifty seconds). They eclipsed the old record set by Chowbotics on May 31, 2018 of 25:57. The 2nd place team also turned in what would have been a world record as well at 25:52 followed by 38 other teams ranging from 30 minutes to 50 minutes.
Altium Live includes some of the greatest technical minds in the industry, who all share a passion and profession of programming customized computer boards using Altium software. Attendees range from large companies like Tesla to small cutting-edge movements like Voz Box – a two person company bringing voice to the voiceless (NOTE: completely amazing company and story – truly inspirational!).
Breaking the Team Robot Building World Record is a truly impressive feat considering thousands of teams from the world’s greatest companies have competed for the best time in hundreds of events over three years. Asked for advice, the team cited team impedance continuity as a key factor!
Also pictured above is Albert Kolesnikov with Philips OHC in Bothell, WA who won our Best Driver competition. A truly impressive feat considering there were over 300 people who each got at least one chance to battle in the Team versus Team competition, from which each team chose a Best Driver. Then the Best Drivers battled each other to earn at least three Best Driver Tokens to make the final tournament. Then the finalists battled in a single elimination tournament. Albert had to impress his team first, and then win a series of approximately 8 consecutive battles without a loss!
Overall, and most importantly, the robot battles were incredibly fun and engaging for all 300 attendees. We began with Team versus Team competitions where everyone gets a chance to battle someone from another team, then a quick Best Driver tournament, and ended with an insanely chaotic All-Bot Melee with over 40 robots all battling at the same time!
The venue was spectacular – with the Loews Coronado Bay Resort boasting perhaps the best views in all of San Diego. The property is located on what feels like its own private island, on the land side of Coronado, looking back at downtown San Diego across San Diego Bay.
A huge thank you to Altium for bringing us back for Altium Live 2018, and to the over 300 attendees who brought the energy and good times. The best quote I overheard all night about the participants was “their faces hurt from smiling all night – there not used to it!”
