Google Team Event Building Robots and Battling
A Google Team Event deep in the heart of the Googleplex mini city, beneath soaring and spectacular redwood trees, aside yellow bikes with front disc brakes, and surrounded by the buzzing of thinking people, we had an amazing Robot Battles event for 4 teams and a Rogue element. Team SuperR, Mega Troll, Fantastic 4, and Chitty, faced off in a robot build and battle competition.
This group represented the group that handles the “near me” searches on Google. So if you type in – great team building events near me – it will show you team building events near where you are located currently. I use this feature all the time traveling to find restaurants, coffee, or a Mojito, or when looking for something specific for the first time near my home.
Team Fantastic 4 won the build competition with a respectable time of 47:45 (forty seven minutes and forty five seconds). Excellent teamwork and communication led to a slight edge over the other three teams, who all finished closely behind.
Fantastic 4 also fared well in the battles winning the 2nd and 7th melee style battle rounds scoring 6 and 7 points respectively. Ultimately, SuperR amassed the most melee wins with close victories in battles one, three, four, and five. Teams Mega Troll and Chitty both scored points consistently throughout the melee rounds, but never enough points in any one battle to win.
The carpet surface worked well to leverage the bots for flipping, which the teams got a hang of in greater frequency as the battles progressed. In the final battle of best drivers, they were flipping each other at a crowd pleasing rate right up until the clock expired.
A huge thank you to Google “near me” team for inviting us out to work with your super talented and creative group – look forward to seeing you back for Robot Battles 2!
