Team Robot Battles with Plastiq in Downtown San Francisco
A Team Robot Battles event with Plastiq on Sutter Street in downtown San Francisco was a fabulous way to end a day of intense meetings. Plastiq offers a unique service where you can use your credit card to pay for things that normally only accept cash or check. It acts as a virtual line of credit to keep more actual cash on hand, and gives the option to pay vendors early or upfront in order to leverage discounts.
This innovative thinking was on display as teams Plastiq, RC Robots, and Komodo Dragon competed to build the robot faster than each other. Komodo Dragon finished with a blazing time of 31:00 minutes putting them in the top 5% all time, however it was RC Robots with a scorching time of 29:29 (twenty nine minutes and twenty nine seconds) that won the build competition!
If you are an avid TeamWorx Blog follower or reader you know that sub-30 minute times are extremely rare! Congratulations to RC Robots for a truly impressive performance – at the end of the day no less!
The battles were truly fun for everyone which was the best outcome of all. People who were hesitant tried it out and, after the exhilaration of their first balloon pop or robot flip, became engaged and entirely focused. We had one pregnant lady who not only battled like a true champion, but was also her teams most ardent pit crew member; a true Hall of Famer in effort and attitude!
There was also plenty of great competition which Komodo Dragons took the lions share. Of the nine melee battles, Komodo Dragons won 5 of them. They seemed to have the knack for flipping robots just a little more than the other teams. We opened the door to let some air in as everyone was jumping and yelling about, and sure enough we had a parade of Sutter Street folks peeking heads in and asking “What’s with the robots?”
A huge thank you to Plastiq for inviting us downtown in San Francisco to work with your team. We hope to have you back for Robot Battles 2!
