Santa Cruz Team Building with Dremio
A Santa Cruz Team Building event with Dremio at the Dream Inn was a huge success as teams built and battled robots. About 80 engineers, senior leadership, and a sprinkling of other capacities all engaged in teams of about 7 people each. Team names included a wide range of creative and sometimes meaningful expressions including: Armageddon, Nirvana, Wrangle, Fuzzy Bunnies, The Blessing, Famous Five, Iceberg, Destructo Rex, Team SBD, and Workshop 1!
Team Armageddon brought the heavy on the build competition finishing in the top 10 all-time with a sub 30 minute time of 28:28! Major congratulations to team Armageddon for a spectacular performance and win! Not all teams were as lucky with a few struggling to beat the average of 45 minutes. One team had victory in their claws but for one critical error in the final steps that set them back over 10 minutes! Overall, excellent teamwork, communication, and team problem solving abounded as all 10 teams completed well built and reliable robots that lasted over an hour of intense battles.
The battles were really fun with up to 10 bots all in the melee at the same time. The energy in the room was fantastic as people yelled and cheered and triumphed with robot flips and popped balloons! The scoring was very equal with three melee rounds creating a three way tie. There were 7 melee rounds that produced a clear winner or only two teams tied. Team Fuzzy Bunnies won the battle competition with 3.5 of of the 7 melee rounds, for a 1 round victory over the next closest team.
We finished with two rounds of Last Bot Standing which produced the end of the line for noble robot warriors.
