Oakland Robot Team Building with Join
Oakland Robot Team Building with Join produced the 13th best robot build time all-time at 27:20 (twenty seven minutes and 20 seconds)! Held in downtown Oakland at a historic theatre, this robot battles event had charm and grace and lightning fast build times.
Tables for each team were placed on the aged wood floor of the theatre which still left ample space for robot battles. We could have hosted 200 people and still had room between us and the stage. Music was playing throughout the event, which fit the theater vibe and added ambiance.
Eight teams competed to build the robot faster than each other and for the world record. The winning team missed the world record by only 6 minutes, and finished at 13th overall fastest robot build time ever from thousands of teams over 5 years; an extremely rare and impressive accomplishment! Three other teams finished with sub 35 minute times; which is amazing in and of itself.
Join is a product to simplify and make more efficient the process of building something. They say it better than I can, “Better collaboration and improved information flow make for smarter decisions. It makes sense they would do extremely well building something! The process of building a robot has fewer moving parts than constructing an office building, however it still does have multiple processes that must be completed concurrently and together.
How efficiently teams are able to navigate these processes determines the difference in the build times more than any other single factor. Assigning human resources effectively to the four projects, and bringing the four component parts together into one functioning robot, are the two best examples of this.
