Sand Castle Building SF with Genentech
A Sand Castle Building SF event with Genentech produced some amazing sand sculptures. Sand Castle building is actually a Sand Sculpture event, as folks are free to make whatever they want. Castles are still popular choices as they have a mental tradition and lend themselves nicely to being recreated from sand. However, we have seen hundreds of other examples throughout our sand castle building events, and this event was no different.
The beauty of our sand sculpture event is that we teach and coach your teams to build the perfect giant sand mound. This includes bonding the sand with a chemical reaction caused by the proper technique, so that, much like concrete, it is bonded in an incredibly durable way.
The venue in San Francisco is ideal and a touch bucolic, easy to forget you are in the heart of a major US city. The Golden Gate Bridge looms largely as the waves gently crash the beach like much of the bay, and in contrast to the rougher “open ocean” side of Ocean Beach.
It was a perfect day in San Francisco, the sky was clear, no wind and the temperature in the high 60’s. A small but mighty group from Genentech wanted a day away from the lab to play in the sand, and they couldn’t have asked for a better day.
The day was intended to cultivate comradery and connection and so competition was put on the back burner. The teams concentrated on engaging their creative sides, sparking innovation, and thinking outside of the box. One team created an amazing castle with turrets and mermaid tale, including a hole deep enough to for a human to kneel and become the face of the mermaid! The second team went a completely different direction using their science minds to create a sculpture illustrating a T-cell killing a cancer cell.
A huge thank you to Genentech for a wonderful day building in the sand and forgetting the outside world; at least for a couple hours!
