Google Robot Battles Team-Building
A Google Robot Battles Team-Building event at their International Headquarters in downtown San Francisco was a huge hit with 300 participants and hundreds of momentary but enthusiastic spectators.
High above the streets and overlooking the Bay Bridge, Googlers built robots in their work-teams of 5 to 10 people each. In total 30 teams preregistered and showed up between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM to build the robots together. There were many fast builders but none faster than Botgirlsummer (Bot#11) who set a NEW WORLD RECORD time for the Robot Battles 2 competition of 37:37:37 (thirty seven minutes and thirty seven seconds and thirty seven hundredths).
Other team names included Cyber Coin Minors, Get-on-bot, Nome Bots, Robo Guppies, Antologi, Robot Magicians, Nic of Time, Kevin, Fit Bot, Fighting Bowens, Waymoonoots, Lucky, Chop Chop, Rust in Peace, Ghost Machina, Team8, Botworks, Robot Crushers, Team Google Wall-e, and many more.
Assisting us all day was The CardinalBotics #4159 High School Robotics Club. 14 team members volunteered to assist teams with building and answering any questions the teams may have. They also volunteered two referees who willingly entered the battle arena and assisted robots with exiting, getting flipped back over, or adding more balloons.
The battles were unbelievable! 30 Robot Battles 2 robots all ready at the same time of 4:00 PM – all battling together in the arena!
The energy of hundreds of excited spectators and participants yelling and screaming, and encouraging each other was uplifting and dynamically interacting with each of us to create a sum that was much larger than its hundreds of moving parts. A truly exceptional experience in the history of TeamWorx Robot Battles!
Feedback was spectacular with over 80% of participants rating it 5 out of 5 stars, and 100% 4 or better, including many spectacular comments like this small sample below:
- “I couldn’t stop thinking during the event: “This is exactly what I expected when I joined Google”, silly fun with a ridiculous premise that was crazy fun! AMAZING event.”
- “This was great! Best event I’ve had at Google”
- “Truly, truly amazing event. The most fun I’ve had at Google since I joined. Great job, team!”
- “This was the single best event I’ve been at since joining Google! Multiple people on my team said: “this is the type of stuff I thought of when joining Google”.
A huge thank you to Google for inviting us to your headquarters for an amazing Robot Build and Battle Team Building event!
