Waymo Robot Team Building
A Waymo Robot Team Building in Mountain View included onsite teams from around the SF bay area, and two teams from Seattle!
Waymo is famous for building self driving cars, a decade long journey that is now bearing fruit with actual working autos on the road!
About 80 people from Waymo’s Sunnyvale and Mountain View offices met at the X building in a spectacular setting and built and battled robots alongside their colleagues from Seattle who were broadcast on the large screen. The Seattle teams were shipped two Robot Battles 2 team kits and they competed in real time with the folks onsite in Mountain View. The Seattle teams were able to get help from our onsite emcee and robot expert when needed through an interactive video system.
The large screen shown in the picture made it easy to see and hear what they were doing, and allowed us to do the event all together.
Teams from Seattle and Mountain View competed to build the robot faster and for the World Record. In the end, a team from Seattle barely beat an onsite team with a time of 51:06! The onsite team finished in 51:16 just 10 seconds behind.
All of the bots made their way to the arena in the center of the room. The room has concrete floors which work great for robot battles. The smooth, hard, surface allows for quick and consistent action throughout the battles.
We completed multiple rounds of points based battles with many different winning teams. The Seattle teams battled each other in epic rounds of exciting action viewable on the big screen.
As with most robot build and battle events, we concluded with a last bot standing battle to determine our ultimate champion!
A huge thank you to Waymo for inviting us to the top secret Google X building, and for integrating their Seattle teams using high-end video technology. We look forward to working with more talented robot builders and battlers at Waymo!
