Las Vegas BattleBots Teambuilding
A Las Vegas BattleBots Teambuilding event was a huge success with GitLab. The event was hosted inside the BattleBots tent located just off The Strip behind the Horseshoe Casino. The BattleBots tent is where they film the Discovery Channel TV show BattleBots, and they deliver a Las Vegas show, Destructathon, 3 to 4 times a week.
10 teams of 8-10 people each competed to build the robot faster beneath the banners of previous BattleBots champions, and adjacent to the BattleBox where the battles take place.
GitLab helps companies manage the growing complexities of developing, securing, and deploying software by combining all of your tools in one area (reducing toolchain sprawl), adding helpful AI, and other features like built-in security, compliance, deployment, and planning. Given all of that, building our Robot Battles 2 robots was well within their scope.
The winning team finished with a time of 52:44 – the 19th best time ever! (Top 20 All-Time)
After building, we moved the robots inside the BattleBox, just like the real BattleBots on TV!
Ten robots battled in multiple rounds of combat giving everyone a chance to battle a robot inside the world famous arena.
We finished with a “last bot standing” finale where we used the raised “platform” in the back of the box to create a dramatic setting for the finale. In other words, the robots got literally knocked off the platform as one way to be eliminated! This made for exciting and dramatic eliminations of robots as several were knocked off the edge and tumbled to their end on the BattleBox floor.
The ending was fitting for such an epic venue! Three bots were pushed off the edge at the same time on one end, while one robot was flipped out of the platform on the other, setting up a final one-on-one battle for the championship! Our winner quickly dispatched with the remaining bot by driving full speed into its center and knocking it off the platform for a dramatic final victory!
