Slack Robot Racing TeamBuilding
A Slack Robot Racing TeamBuilding was a huge success at the Hayes Mansion in San Jose. 15 teams built custom Robot Racers and then raced in full contact robot racing.
“TeamWorx Robot Racing: Where technical professionals become thrill-seeking innovators. This team challenge delivers not just success, but an unforgettable experience. We had 150 tech pros fully engaged for the duration of the two-hour event. These are managers and engineers who rarely get to let loose, we witnessed boundless creativity and ingenuity in design. What started as a friendly race evolved into a
no-holds-barred frenzy, injecting hilarity into every moment!”
Each team was given 1-hour to design, build, and test their custom robot racer. Teams could trade with our Robot Crew at the front, or with each other, to obtain additional parts if needed. The multitude of different end results was testament to the flexibility of the event and the creativity of the audience! Each of the 15 robot racers was unique and featured a perceived, if not actual, racing advantage.
Robot Racing is full contact so the designs emphasized protection and destruction over aerodynamics and light weight. In line with this characteristic of robot racing, pole position is determined by the heaviest robot racer, and the lightest robots go last. Official weigh-ins give the teams a chance to see where they stand in comparison to other teams, and allows them time to add or subtract from their robot before the actual races.
The races where super fun with maximum engagement!
Our partners at Slack designed a custom race track that really added to the spectacular nature of the event. They cleverly placed their logo in the center of the track which initially featured a large oval with two starting locations to accommodate all 15 teams easily. After the first set of races to get folks used to robot racing, we gave the teams 10-minutes to tune-up and/or modify their robots before the big finale!
While they were tuning up robots, we slipped outside to rearrange the track into a figure 8-format with a live center where both tracks intersect! The finale was super exciting with robots starting in two different starting lines, and ultimately meeting in the center of the figure 8 with a plentitude of crashes, flips, and amazing maneuverability to survive two laps!
The winning team is pictured above – they managed to survive the 2-lap finale and finish ahead of the other teams using two different drivers!
