Abbott Marketing Team Build and Battle Robots
Build and Battle Robots isn’t just for engineers and tech pros. Marketing teams from Abbott Laboratories squared off at their facility in Pleasanton, competing to build a robot faster than the other team and also beating them in robot battles. The “Crushers” finished below 40 minutes – a spectacular time – at 39:56 (thirty nine minutes and fifty six seconds). “Go Bots” also finished just under the overall average time of 45:00 minutes with a solid performance of 44:00 (forty four minutes even).
When asked their keys to success they unanimously stated “outgoing and communicative personalities and a desire to win.” The team name “Crushers” definitely sends a clear message to the competition of their intent.
Indeed, the robot team building event is a “team building” event first, and a robot event second; meaning at its core great teamwork and leadership will trump any technical knowledge or familiarity with robots in terms of beating the build record or beating the other teams. If you can build furniture from IKEA, you can build a robot; and it will last longer!
One thing that makes the robots accessible is our custom made directions based on what could be called the “IKEA model” of instructional assistance. We would characterize this as a highly visual and collaborative experience. The instructions are designed to promote interaction between participants and team problem solving. All four components must come together in the end, which brings the whole team together in one large collaboration.
Abbott is a truly amazing company spanning 150 countries and 99,000 employees worldwide. They make products and services in cardiovascular medical technologies, diabetes, diagnostics, neuromodulation (movement disorders), nutrition, and pharmaceuticals! Like tech companies they are growing and hiring talented people throughput the bay area.
Abbott has offices in downtown San Francisco, Alameda, Pleasanton, and Santa Clara so we are looking for more talented robot building teams to enter into the fray and post some Abbott internal build records and compete for the Word Record!
A huge thank you to Abbott for a fun and light hearted event in the heart of Pleasanton.
