Coinbase Mountain View Teambuilding
A Coinbase Mountain View Teambuilding event featured 96 people building and battling robots in the cafeteria of their downtown office. The venue doubled as a food eating location until about 30-minutes before the event when half the room was allotted for our private event. A great benefit of this arrangement was a spectacular breakfast bar to choose from, and a generous invite from our host to fuel ourselves up for the event!
We divided into 17 teams, adding two additional teams at the start time, as people grazing excitedly joined once they saw how ridiculously cool and unique this experience was going to be. The introduction went great despite the ambient buzz coming from the other half of the room, mostly because they equipped me with a crystal clear microphone that projected my deep emcee voice directly to those in need of the information. Well done venue hosts!
The winning team, pictured above, finished more than 9 minutes faster than the average build time of 45-minutes, posting a time of 35:55, making them 84th all time! More impressive when you consider the competition has reached thousands of teams beginning in 2017, and only 16 times have made our “under 37 minutes” list in the past two years! Well done coinbase!
The battles were predictably awesome with up to 17 robots battling at the same time! The cheering and yelling and fun were off the charts as usual, and it looked like they literally made the stock rise in price right before our eyes. We had a large digital screen that displayed the Coinbase stock price along with the value of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other crypto currencies. You could see the market value of each currency by the size of the rectangle they inhabited, so a novice like myself could easily identify the top 5 currencies and see immediately that Bitcoin is giant.
