Dallas Robot Team Building with Precision Castparts
A Dallas Robot Team Building with Precision Castparts was a huge success with 180 IT professionals building and battling robots! The Hilton Anatole is one of those iconic hotels almost everyone in the meeting industry has visited at least once, or heard about it. With good reason, it is a massive and expansive hotel minutes from downtown with ample meeting space and a colossal atrium area that makes any meeting of people seem special. As a side note, also a great hotel to work with as a vendor; easy access to back of show, easy loading, easy parking, and friendly and helpful folks working there!
We were in the Imperial Ballroom with 34 teams and two battle arenas. Looking to make the battles more orderly from last year’s event, PCP suggested a dual battle floor layout allowing 17 teams in each arena to battle at the same time versus all 34 teams in one arena. We divided the arenas by “odd numbered” and “even numbered” teams to make it easy.
The result was a smooth battle-rounds process with 5-rounds of “points-based” battles going smoothly and leading up to our “Last Bot Standing” semi-finals. The finale was with the 5 “last-standing-battle-robots” from each arena battling for one ultimate champion! All of the battles were great with the quality of the robot builds at an all-time high, and my crew of 5 members from the UT@Dallas Robotics Team helping to fix and repair bots between battles!
The build winner featured one return winning person from last year’s team, Joe Cancasci, pictured in the middle above, who had a stunning time of 31:36 placing them 45th all-time out of thousands of teams over 10 years! A very impressive build time considering only a handful of teams have made the top 90 times in the last two years! Joe clearly knows how to lead a team of robot builders!
A huge thank you to Precision Castparts for another amazing event! We look forward to seeing you again next year with Robot Racing!
