EA BattleBot Team Offsite at “The Laundry” in SF
EA hosted a really cool offsite at The Laundry – a hip hangout in the Mission district of SF. Named for the 1776-built Mission Dolores, the Mission District is an exuberant, evolving neighborhood with Latino roots and a hipster vibe. The Laundry is an experiential space fostering creativity, connection, and community. Add to that one of the world’s premiere game and experiential companies and a BattleBot Team Offsite from TeamWorx and it was a truly exceptional afternoon!
P-Shooter won the build competition with a blistering time of 30:40. An 8 team battlebot style tournament included a semi-final featuring “Laura Croft” versus “Mario” in one bracket and “C3PO” and “Chomper” in the other. Mario won in a last second flip that averted a loss. Behind 2 balloons to 1 Mario had to do something before time expired. With the official timer literally counting down “3, 2, 1” Mario flipped Laura Croft for an incredible win! Int he other bracket a well matched battle ended with a flipped robot and Chomper heading to the final!
The final was an epic battle that went 1 minute 42 seconds before Mario prevailed with a flip and win thrilling conclusion to an amazing tournament!
The Laundry provided a split level venue with half the teams downstairs and half upstairs. At the end we created a coliseum battle field in the upstairs area. Multiple levels in the space allowed many to see the battles and kept the engagement and enthusiasm high.
EA is famous for FIFA in my circle of friends but also has Battlefield, Batman, Black, Beatles, Bond, Battlefront, and others that are beyond awesome! The SIms, Unravel, Mass Effect, Bulletstorm, and NBA are some EA games mentioned by my Nephews/Nieces that they enjoyed.
A huge thank you to EA for making us a part of your BattleBot Team Offsite at the Laundry. We hope to see other teams from EA compete to break the world record, and battle for a champion!
