LinkedIn Hack/Week Robot Teambuilding
A LinkedIn Hack/Week Robot Teambuilding event featured 14 teams building robots and battling inside the Hack/Week Main Tent on HQ campus!
Each team competed the day before to build the robot faster than the other teams, and for a World Record. The winning team, pictured above, built the robot in a scorching fast time of 38:14 (thirty-eight minutes and fourteen seconds).
After building, teams took time to modify and adapt the robot for the battles to come the next day.
This 2-day format worked well to (1) draw more attendees to the Hack/Week main event on the 2nd day and (2) allow teams additional time to consider the modifications to the robot in more depth. After teams invested the time and energy to build the robot, it almost guaranteed they would show up the following day to battle with their robot. In fact, 13 out of 14 teams attended the battles, so about 65 additional attendees to the overall festivities!
Of course the lure of the battles was also a great contributor to high attendance amongst the teams for the main event. The LinkedIn meeting planning team constructed a beautiful and highly functional robot arena (pictured above) which added to the excitement of the battles. The central location within the overall party added a huge burst of energy, enthusiasm, yelling, cheering, and action for hundreds of folks to enjoy as they mingled and enjoyed the many other opportunities and features of the party.
The battles were super exciting with all of the robots working well and completing multiple rounds of points-based combat. The two highest scoring rounds were 12 points and 11 points, with the winning teams accounting for 3 flips each in their peak performances.
The overall battle champion is decided by our Last Bot Standing Finale! The champion battle team also had one of the best team names of all -time. I have personally experienced thousands of team names over a thirty year career, however very few stick out. The name (pictured above) was essentially “Not, Not a Name” meaning, that is their name.
A huge thank you to LinkedIn for inviting us out for your Hack/Week festivities again, for building a fabulous arena, and for another amazing experience!
