LinkedIn NYC Robot Team-Building
A LinkedIn NYC Robot Team-Building at the Empire State Building was a multi-floor success with a spectacular ending.
Robot Battles is a great way to encourage folks to show up at the office for a planned “all-hands-on-deck” type experience. LinkedIn hosted an all-day in-person voluntold type day with a “carrot” of come into the office and have the opportunity to “build and battle robots!”
It worked! We had about 200 people on two floors and in four different areas all building robots at the same time! The build session was around early lunch time from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The battles started at 4:00 PM and lasted until 5:00 PM with a “last-bot-standing” finale.
Being hosted in the most iconic New York building, the Empire State Building, was a classic New York City experience . The battles followed a fire-side chat with the top executives and a vocal and engaged audience. The questions and answers were timely and reflected concerns many of us have as we navigate the potential headwinds in the economy and what it means for our mission, our jobs, and our direction.
There was a DJ filling the colorful space with uplifting beats and rhythms, familiar to the audience despite our generational diversity.
The battles offered a chance to blow off steam and celebrate with a hands on activity. About 20 Robot Battles 2 bots smashed and crashed attempting to flip and disarm each other and pop as many balloons as possible.
The winning battle team – pictured here – won the most rounds of robot combat and the last-bot-standing competition! This cemented them as the ultimate team champions – for which they received a retro X-box game system in mint condition!
A huge thank you to LinkedIn for inviting us to NYC and the Empire State Building for a very important day in a spectacular venue!
