Meta Menlo Park Teambuilding
A Meta Menlo Park Teambuilding with robots was a huge success with many happy people and a top 100 build time!
5 teams from the wearable division competed to build the robot faster than each other and for the World Record.
The winning team, pictured above, completed the robot accurately in 34:45 (thirty four minutes and 45 seconds) placing them 78th all-time on the Robot Build and Battle Top 100 list! Congratulations for a spectacular achievement!
The other four teams followed close behind with fast times and quality builds. Almost every team took time to modify the attack arm, with a few unique models (pictured above) actually developed! “Short Stuff” and “Modern Art” arms were novel and quite effective. Although neither won the final battle, both did well to push folks outside the arena and to score points.
It is truly amazing how many ways there are to modify the attack arm. I suggest curious folks check out other blogs for more examples of creative designs with what seems like a standard set of pieces. “Meta Modifications” and “July Team Building” are two good blogs to check out, but most blogs have at least one new design.
The battles were exciting with four modified designs and one robot with the standard design. “Short Stuff” dominated the early battle rounds scoring 6,7, and 11 points consecutively. However another model, the “Modified Joust”, which is a modification of the standard Joust shown as an option in the instructions, was triumphant in the final.
It was a close and controversial finish with disputed video evidence where two robots were circling the edge of the arena precariously close to going out. One appeared to get pushed out, but was not 100% outside the boundary, and then it whipped the other bot around placing it just outside the boundary! The referee ruled clear victory for the Modified Joust, but “Modern Art” disputed the ruling feeling like they had pushed the other bot first.
In the end everyone was happy with a great time, and both teams felt like champions!
A huge thank you for Meta bringing us out to build and battle with talented folks!
