Netflix Robot Team Building Sets Record
A Netflix Robot Team Building event at the Campbell Community Center yielded a new internal Netflix build time for the Robot Battles 1 event. The previous robot build record set on November 14, 2018 by team Megatron of 32:32 (thirty two minutes and thirty two seconds), was bested “strangerly” by team GoJiro (trans. Godzilla) with a record setting time of 31:31 (thirty one minutes and thirty one seconds). Team Witchers finished five minutes later with a great time of 35:41.
The Netflix Application Security Team featured many great battlers. Each team built a solid robot that lasted many rounds of combat, and we added two pre-built bots to make each battle have four total robots.Each team controlled two robots in a tactical and physical battle of wits, quickness, agility, and a little luck. With only ten people and 4 robots, everyone battled numerous times until only the life of the robots and the threat of carpal tunnel damage ended it.
The melee rounds were action packed as teams added the scores of each of their team robots for a combined score against the other team. Teams chose unique colors for their balloons so we could tell which two robots were together, and who the enemy was. It looked like everyone had the chance to flip a robot or two for the exhilaration of scoring three points, and everyone popped many balloons in route to victory or non-victory.
We ended the day with a dramatic “Last Survivor” individual tournament. Four robots battled at the same time trying to both pop the other robots balloons and flip them, but also not allowing themselves to be eliminated. Whereas in the melee rounds its all about points and participation, the Last Survivor round is about winning and surviving. I was treated to one of the best 1 on 1 robot battles I have seen over three years. Both battlers were very skilled, and seemed to have a reaction to every action each other presented. Even the final move was a spectacular reverse spin that caught the opponent off guard for just a split second!
