Netflix Robot Team-Building
A Netflix Robot Team-Building at the Kirigin Cellars Winery in Gilroy was a huge success with four teams competing to build the Robot Battles 1 robot faster than each other and for a World Record! Kirigin Cellars Winery is “lodged in a pastoral valley surrounded by hills, trees, and range land, the winery is blessed with extraordinary natural beauty and serenity which (they) work hard to preserve and enhance.” (from their website)
The winning team – pictured above – built their robot in a red-hot time of 32:54 – putting them in a tie for 50th place all-time with Databricks!
The fast robot building time posted by this team was even more impressive for two really good reasons: (1) the scenery at Kirigin Cellars is impressive and potentially distracting. Large and lush green grass soccer fields and vineyards surround the event space, giving it a luxurious spaciousness akin to the great castles of Europe, and (2) the wine is tasty and available. Combined together, the landscaping, the event space, the people staffing the event space, the remoteness and sounds of the country, and the robot build and battle event made for a perfect afternoon for team bonding.
The other three teams finished with well-built robots that survived many rounds of robot combat. The floor was an excellent conductor of motion and allowed for robot flips and dozens of popped balloons. The battles were engaging and boisterous, and complemented nicely by the wine pairings and hors d’oeuvres.
Most importantly, everyone had a great time, laughed, participated, and everyone battled and felt connected to the robot they built as a team. We saw many happy faces, smiles, and folks told us how much fun it was!
A huge thank you to Netflix for inviting us to join you at the Kirigin Cellars Winery for an elegant and relaxing afternoon of robot building and friendly battling.
