Netflix Team Building Sunnyvale Success Building and Battling Robots!
A recent Netflix Team Building event in Sunnyvale had 6 teams and 50 people competing to build robots and then battle each other in robot combat. We hosted Netflix at one of our offsite venues nearby in Sunnyvale – a beautiful room in a park setting and affordable! Our resident “venue-booker” Libby has developed a great network of affordable offsite venues in Sunnyvale, Mountain View, San Jose, Redwood City, Santa Clara and other Bay Area cities. We are able to host most groups in relaxing and convenient venues that allow us to focus on the robot event and not worry about parking, noise, or space.
Of course this is key when working with an enthusiastic group like Netflix. With 6 teams and 10 bots competing, the yelling, shouting, cheering, and gasps were loud and proud, enhanced by the fact that we had to keep the doors closed for most of the event due to bad air quality. Each team entered a quality robot built to spec and ready for combat, In addition we brought 2 extra bots and two experimental bots. We are continuously testing new versions of robots to determine the best model, and also to add variety in combat just like Battlebots!
Team “Megatron” – named after the founder of the Deception uprising – beat all other teams in the robot building portion with a top 5% finishing build time of 32:32 (32 minutes and 32 seconds). Every team finished under the average build time of 45 minutes in a highly competitive session. Once a winner was established this Netflix crew abandoned the team-versus-team format altogether and devolved immediately to the all-bot melee.
This was great because with ten robots the battles were fierce and at times unpredictable. The addition of the slayer and slayer 2 experimental bots to the combat added an interesting twist. We learned that the slayers are deadly accurate and easier to pop balloons with, however, due to their small and simplified design they were also much easier to flip over. A high-risk/ high-reward model for sure!
All in all – a truly unforgettable Netflix Team Building afternoon with one of America’s greatest companies. A huge thank you to Netflix for having us join your group. We are looking for more Netflix groups to challenge the internal build time set at this event of 32:32 and to challenge for the world record!
