Robot Team-Event Las Vegas with Austin General Contracting
A Robot Team-Event Las Vegas was a huge hit with Austin General Contracting! It was a family and company event with different teams from within the company competing alongside their children aged 6 to 16. Some teams were filled with all adults, for example our winning build team pictured above that came in 55th all-time with a spectacular time of 33:36! (Thirty three minutes and thirty six seconds). One child aged about 6 years old just made life difficult for the other teams by using the balloon pump to blow air in their faces while they tried to build the robot (not recommended).
The professional group included five teams of combined talent from painters, carpenters, and wood workers, to superintendents, general contractors, and owners. It also included a support staff of folks committed to the happiness of the robot builders and battlers. They included folks from the top of the company, including the one who sponsored our event!
As you would expect from folks who use their hands everyday and build things, the teams did well. Every team finished below the average build time of 45 minutes!
The battles were great and highly augmented by the smooth concrete surface. The rubber wheels gripped tightly to the surface leading to multiple robot flips per round. The scoring of each round averaged over 9 points for the winning teams. Children and adults battled for more points in 7-consecutive, 2-minute, points based, rounds of combat.
The finale was a last bot standing competition that came down to two adults, and one was the boss. There was some low-level scuttlebutt that it might not be wise to win … lol … in good humor! This was evident by the fact that the final two bots battled ferociously for over 2-minutes before the boss took down our worthy competitor!
Most importantly, everyone had a spectacular time, laughed, engaged, drank beer and ate pizza, and all felt good about being apart of the Austin Team!
