Shell Oil and ASRC Leverage TeamWorx Corporate Teamwork Training in Valdez Alaska
Shell Oil and ASRC have a common goal of protecting the environment and providing jobs and tax revenue to local Alaskans. They take safety and relationships seriously. A team that gets along is safer, more productive, and will endure the hardships of being at sea. We partnered with Shell Oil and ASRC to develop a customized corporate teamwork training approach based on our book “The Seven Steps to Dynamic Discourse.” The outcomes were immediate and lasting. People built meaningful relationships faster, and used the tools they learned to improve their communication in all aspects of their lives.
The type of work they do is dangerous and it is demanding. They rely on their team to pull them through physically, emotionally, and safely. In our approach to corporate teamwork training for this project we used a well balanced approach to provide the teams with a variety of skills they could use easily, and that would have immediate impact. We worked with hundreds of students over 4 weeks.
Additionally, we led an interactive “Safety Day” presentation that got “buy-in” from employees on a code of conduct and acceptable standards for a safe work environment. Although not a part of our formal corporate teamwork training program, We embraced the challenge to make the material engaging, interactive, and personally meaningful. There were several stakeholders in the meeting that had worked for Shell for more than 10 or in some cases 20 years who commented to us it was the best safety day they had ever experienced.
TeamWorx also learned a great deal about creating a safety culture from Shell and ASRC. They both do a great job of demanding attention to the details that lead to zero accidents. After being immersed in this culture for over two weeks, we have since changed many of our own protocols and procedures with a safety first mind set now in place. In all, a very rewarding experience for all involved!
