Seattle Corporate Robot Team Event with Oculus
We recently had a Seattle Corporate Robot Team Event in beautiful Bellevue with Oculus. Oculus is a division of Facebook and makes the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset that is “light, adaptable, and comfortable… When you‘re in VR, the headset goes away and you go somewhere incredible.” It sounds extremely fun! They also offer some really cool machines perfectly matched to run the Rift that are: “affordable machines designed to power Rift. Whether you’re a tech enthusiast, hardcore gamer, or just excited to take your first steps in VR—our program makes it quick and easy to get started.” I also noticed some futuristic looking game controls named “Touch” that “bring the magic of hand presence to life in VR.” I personally am holding out only because it sounds like it may be too good! Long story short, these people really know how to have fun!
We therefore are amazingly pleased that these fun experts and enthusiasts had an incredibly fun time building robots and competing in our Speed and Skill robot competition. As you would imagine the aggregate sum of the teams’ building times was perhaps the best ever recorded, though a world record was illusive by a minute or so. I am sure if they have a 2nd crack at the robot in the fall, the current record may very well meet it’s demise.
The real time Speed and Skill competitions were loud and somewhat crazy as containment by the table playing field did not spill over into unfettered cheers and screaming. In both agony of a wrong turn or a dropped cup, and pure joy at an individual success or a team victory, the room shook with vibrant noise! Many of the competitions were close, however one team seemed to get most of the victories (pictured above).
A huge thank you to Oculus for inviting us to bring our robot team event to your meeting!
