Teamwork is Key to Robot Build Event
A Robot Build Event could easily be confused with a tech or engineer only environment. Team Onion – named because they “make the competition cry” – brought a full dose of competition, communication, and great teamwork to post a top 5% time of 34:50 (thirty four minutes and fifty seconds) in the robot build portion of the event. Although engineers of any kind universally love our robot building event, Strada Investment showed that the key to success lies in organization, planning, project management, and execution as much as any pre-technical knowledge or familiarity.
The people at Strada know a thing or two about teamwork – keeping company with the likes of the Golden State Warriors. Among other incredibly cool projects, Strada is the development manager for the Warriors’ new arena in the Mission Bay District. If the Warriors are trusting them with the franchise’s biggest investment, I think they probably display excellent teamwork in more areas than just building a robot. As is more common now, the development includes the team office and new practice facility, shopping, restaurants, and green space. Notably, the Warriors are investing more than $1 Billion in San Francisco, and are the only sports team in America doing a project like this all with private money! Strada – making it happen!
The battles were well organized and featured full leverage of the person v person format. Beginning with a “winner stays” format I had not seen implemented since our 4th of July family ping pong tournaments in the 80’s, Stada set the tone early. They followed this up with a one-v-one and team-v-team format. Each person got to call out one person on the other team and battle for 2 minutes or until an immediate victory.
As fate would have it, the score was tied going into the last battle which saw the two principles battle for 2:30 to determine the final winner, and non winner. You will have to ask them who won as I was sworn to secrecy!
Thank you Strada Investment for having us out to downtown San Francisco to share in your energy and enthusiasm. We appreciate working with you!
