Team Building Robot Wars
Facebook did a Team Building Robot Wars event inside the art filled walls of buildings 21-26. It was a truly special event for us, as it was with the original client who first booked our very first robot event at Facebook. Our technology and robot performance has improved significantly over two plus years between events, and he was excited to see where the program had gone since his first introduction. We were excited to commemorate a long and exciting journey from first Facebook event to now – including hundreds of participants.
The event lived up to expectations with an enthusiastic and energetic start anchored by some great team names including: Addbots, Sparky, Pyramid Builders, Transformers, and T-Godzilla. These teams were very talkative and communicative and thoroughly enjoyed the build process. Not concerned with setting records, the fastest build time was 48:00 minutes with the other teams following soon after. This group was a great example and benchmark for teams looking to have a more casual pace, enjoy the building process together, and create a well built and reliable robot.
Another unique feature of this event was that our robot expert Matt was turned into fight commentator by the addition of a microphone. The combination of excellent combat announcing, and a new melee format led to highly charged and engaged battles.
Our melee format included 5 minute rounds or up to 10 points. This encouraged drivers to play faster and get more smashes per minute. It also forced teams to work together in each fight by running out and adding balloons so their driver could keep fighting. Everyone was gathered around the arena and cheering right up until the very end!
We are always learning from our clients how to create the best possible experience for every group, and what we can share with others through the evolution of the program. We can never anticipate exactly what will work the best, so being flexible and having creative clients helps us to advance the event continuously and rapidly!
Another huge thank you to Ryan our original Facebook client, and to his amazing team for an inspirational event!
