Oracle Team Building with Robot Battles
Oracle Team Building events need to live up to the massive reputation of one of the world’s greatest companies. Driving up to HQ one is immediately daunted by Oracle One floating in the lagoon reaching hundreds of feet into the air with its “sci-fi-esque” mast; even Alex Honnold may have some fear climbing it! Entering one of the black rounded buildings that make up the Oracle-sphere and meeting the team lived up to the reputation. They were sharp and alert and ready to do some damage.
The winning build team – Brentrance – posted a scorching time of 31:20 (thirty one minutes and twenty seconds) – almost good enough to win an America’s Cup race and certainly good enough to land them in the top 5% of all builder teams. Brentrance started slow, but picked up momentum with accuracy. This was a case of “slow is smooth, smooth is fast” type of deal, where they calmly each did an excellent job at their own building tasks, and then demonstrated great leadership in drawing them all together in a smooth and organized process. Always great to see great teamwork!
The battles were the highlight once again with a feisty group showing their teeth on the battlefield. We had several excellent robot flippers with amazing skill in both 1 on 1 flipping and multiple bot flips. Naveen rose as the master of the triple flip doing this extraordinary act twice! That is, with four robots battling he managed to flip all the other three robots for an immediate win! Super exciting.
Many groups are blessed with one or two great battlers but this group had 4 or 5 natural artists – with Jaime, Kurt, and Anthony all making impressive runs of their own. It is just so invigorating to watch exciting robot battles where bots are being flipped, balloons getting popped, and nuts and bolts left on the carpet!
A huge thank you to Mike and Oracle for bringing us out. It is always exciting for us to visit a new world-famous campus and work with amazing people. We hope to come back many times and lighten the hearts and feed the joy of many more Oraclers!
