Stealth Space Interns Team Build Robots
Stealth Space Interns team build robots almost as good as the long standing employees, with two spectacular top 5% times of 28:33 (twenty-eight minutes and thirty-three seconds) by the winning team “Dingleberry” and a 2nd place time of just 28:40 by Team Laurel. In addition we had team Rocketry McRockface and my favorite, “Please hire me.”
Strangely, in the previous event with the “already employees,” it was also “Dingleberries” who won, posting the fourth fastest time ever at 23:56 (twenty three minutes and fifty six seconds)! And, just like with the interns, a second team also posted a spectacular result – 24:40 by team Old Texas – putting them 6th all-time!
Stealth Space is fairly secretive about how they do what they do – what they do is launch rockets every 9 months versus every 5 years as per industry standard. This increased frequency is better for clients, obviously, but also better for R & D. Stealth Space gets real time actual data at a pace that is 5 to 10 times more frequent than the competition and the industry norm – wow – you can really build a better rocket that way! Having observed the insides of many facilities, I found this workplace to be particularly intelligent and people friendly.
Clean, open spaces, and elegant and intelligently designed work areas, highlight a visitors first glance. A deeper look reveals subtle touches, for example, each workstation has the persons name, title, and a portrait picture placed in a standardized, easy to find public viewing location. Added to this are clear signs identifying departments. One can look across the warehouse space and physically read/see where each team is located. Upon arriving at the workstation, we effortlessly greet the individual by name, and we don’t interrupt others workflow asking “where can I find ….?”
Juxtaposed to the sterile and elegance of the inside, is a Myth Busters like expanse of asphalt, concrete and gravel. An old Navy Base, now slowly transforming into creative mixed use industrial, it begs for outdoor robot battles. And, this is what we provided!
