200 Person Team Build with Marvell Fires Up Employees!
A 200 Person Team Build with Marvell Employees featured close to 20 teams making robots and battling outside on the basketball court. Teams from anywhere in the company could register for the event early, so teams came prepared with matching T-Shirts, themed team names, and tons of team spirit – for example “Cost Crushers” came from accounting! It was no surprise several teams signed up, Marvell is on the cutting edge of communication offering end-to-end 5G communication in a 4G world.
Among the sectors that stand to benefit most from 5G technology are transportation, industrial manufacturing, entertainment and public services. Benefits include higher data rates, and reduced latency. In addition, low power consumption allows unique form factors for challenging industrial environments and other previously difficult-to-connect environments.
The winning build team finished in under 50 minutes! Most of the robot build teams finished in less than one hour and headed outside in a large pack to the “arena” located on the basketball court.
The surface of the court was fantastic for robot battles, as the wheels gripped quickly and allowed for fast and furious movement, hair raising collisions, and precise evasive techniques. The noise from the crowd was staggering as hundreds of folks yelled and cheered the flipping of robots and flying of parts. We even noticed people watching from several raised platforms and windows throughout the campus! Exhilarating!
The battles were the highlight of the event with over a dozen robots battling in any given melee, and we managed to keep the bots running for 9 melees and 1 free-for-all! Quality of the builds was excellent which allowed for 2 or 3 intense metal smashing and robot flipping battles before things needed fixing or adapting. The repairs and adaptations were quick and efficient which allowed for a smooth stream of on-time battles.
