A Redwood City Robot Event building robots with Enjoy was a huge hit at the Redwood Robot Offsite Complex. Enjoy delivers the smart last mile for your electronics to your home. Wow – it’s true! A truly amazingly awesome idea for the hoards of semi-technical and non-technical people who can now enjoy a low stress buying engagement, and can also take advantage of the many customization features available in today’s electronics that most people never even know about.
This team of software engineers had excellent attention to detail making very few mistakes and also completing the robots quickly. Three teams finished in under 40 minutes – putting them well above the average build times of about 45 minutes. Teams Pirates, Chartreuse Snuffaluffagus, Rabies, Sabers, and Flytrap all built solid robots, but it was team Rabies that came away with the best time of 37:24 (thirty seven minutes and twenty four seconds).
The battles were exceptional with 7 rounds of melee style robot battles. Team Rabies jumped out to an early lead with the first two victories, however Flytrap and Chartreuse Snuffaluffagus soon followed with wining melee rounds. After 6 rounds every team had at least 1 melee victory and every team was in play for an overall championship with a win in the final battle.
Since everyone had already had a chance to battle, we decided to make the final round 5 minutes long, with each team member battling for 1 minute. We thought that would be the best way to elicit the best overall team. The final came down to a tie between Pirates and Chartreuse Snuffaluffagus – and we decided on a winner take all “last survivor” round between these two teams, with Pirates winning in a close battle that came down to 1 balloon each!
