Team Offsite Redwood City Course Hero Battles Robots
A team offsite Redwood City event saw seven teams from Course Hero compete to build the robot faster than each other and then battle each other in robot combat. They assembled at our favorite offsite venue in Redwood City and proceeded to create team names. An unusually creative distribution of team names included teams Robohazard, Robohero, Smashy Smashy McBotface, T minus 5, Get Stuck! and What’s in the Box?
Course Hero assists students with millions of course specific aids such as study guides, class notes, books, homework assistance, and more – “Cliff Notes” on steroids – all with the overall purpose of getting “Unstuck!” Thus we can understand team “Get Stuck!“, and “Robohero” is an obvious homage to the company name. “What’s in the Box” a play on being team #7 and therefore Brad Pitt’s most famous line in any movie. I will leave the interpretation of the other team names to the reader.
Get Stuck! won the build competition with an above average time of 54:18 (fifty four minutes and eighteen seconds). The average build time for Robot Battles 2 has hovered between 55 minutes and 1 hour. The rest of the teams finished in good order which led to many rounds of 7 team combat. Every person was able to battle at least once if not more times before we concluded with two rounds of Last Bot Standing.
The melee battles are always exciting at our favorite Redwood venue due to a floor that grips wheels and adds to the fulcrum effect that ultimately must occur for robots to go over. This event was no exception with many exhilarating robot flips.
One participant – known only as R-master – attached his phone to a robot and created a first person view movie of Robot Battles 2 fighting. I really now know much better what our robots go through in combat, and what it is to be a battle robot.
When the displaced robot parts settled – Smashy Smashy McBotface lived up to their name and were awarded the overall battle champion with 3 melee victories!
