Google Meet Virtual Team Building with Google Engineers
A Google Meet Virtual Team Building used our tech themed crime solving event “Who Stole Anti Matter?” to entertain engineers and demonstrate best practices using Meet.
Two teams of 7-8 people took just over two hours to present their best case for who stole the anti-matter. We set-up three chat rooms, and three video conference rooms to accommodate a shared general room, and one private room for each team.
We kicked off the event in the general shared room by introducing the event and reading the Confidential Brief to frame the setting and present the circumstances of the crime. We reviewed the crime fighting roles each teammate could choose from, and the adjourned to the team rooms to choose a role for each person, and for private discussion and investigation.
The team rooms were set-up with the materials each role needed for success. Once they choose their role, each person downloads the PDF that matches their role.
One of the strengths of using Google Meet is easy integration with Google Docs. One team used a spread sheet to organize the evidence against each suspect – brilliant! The other team also did something clever and efficient by using the word processor to copy the documents, and then list results next to the evidence.
The video quality was excellent, with effortless real time conversation absent the awkward pauses sometimes associated with video conferencing.
The chat feature allows for uploading files, and it has permanence – so posts are not deleted when you leave the room. It would be even better if the chat feature allowed you to post sub-threads, so teams could use the chat thread to organize evidence without requiring a third document (spreadsheet or word processor).
In the end, we are thankful and appreciative Google engineers took the time to save the planet and figure out who stole anti matter as a fun break form work!
