Virtual Ping Pong Tournament Highlights Amazing August
The Marvell 13th Annual Virtual Ping Pong Tournament highlighted an amazing August that saw us working every day of the month, Many of those events were part of five different groups from Cadence that hosted division wide, three-day, virtual team building celebrations. We also delivered exciting Escape Room, Who Stole Anti-Matter and Speed Teams events to Apple, LinkedIn, Credit Suisse, Trailer Valet, and Qualtrics!
Virtual Ping Pong is a great way to engage an entire company in something active that can also be done in the virtual home office. Marvell hosted a 5 day tournament. We opened on Monday with 4 brackets of up to 200 people each representing different regions within Marvell. By Wednesday we were down to the top 16 competitors, the final 8 on Thursday, and then the final four (pictured above) and a champion all on Friday!
Each day featured 3 new ping pong challenges using only the required kit of 1 ping pong racket, 3 ping pong balls, and 3 plastic cups. The events increased in difficulty as the week progressed. We charted the times for every participant starting on Wednesday to gauge the statistical accuracy of the skill ascension required, and were pleased with the uniform upward trend. The final was a blast with people attending to watch the final four contestants complete seemingly impossible tasks in ridiculously fast times. The champion completed all three tasks – which may take the average person an infinite number of tries – in just 89 seconds!
The Virtual Escape Room had over a dozen events and more than 50 teams attempt to get out in 45 minutes or less. The results were just under 50% for escaping. Even teams that do not solve all 5 challenges in less than 45 minutes have a great time and find success in solving several of the collaborative team challenges. For the ones who do get out, it feels like a very worthy accomplishment of note. The World Record time of 34:19 set by Amazon in July, stood for the entire month of August!
Who Stole Anti Matter and Speed Teams enjoyed over 50 events each with both hosting events for over 100 people multiple times. August was a great month for ramping up our staffing with so many events to cover. We are truly prepared for extra large groups going forward with the trained staff ready to perform!
