Robot Battles Event in SF with Stipe
Robot Battles team building is likely the most popular team building in the San Francisco bay area. This December 6th robot battles team event with Stripe was no different – as folks yelled, hollered, and cheered their way into an overall glow of pride and enjoyment. To give credit, Stipe charged into the event like an industrial card processor ready for whatever volume of new experiences might lay ahead.
Five teams assembled at five tables with a view of the San Francisco Bay and an endless procession of airplanes landing with precision just onto land, just past the end of the bay, perfectly onto the tarmac. Alas, this ever-motion view was not the focus. We had robots to build. Indeed, at 3:08 PM every team started the build with ordered franticness, speed and urgency, looking to out build the other four teams.
Team “Rhoomba: We Gonna Sweep the Room” prevailed in both the best robot name I have heard in awhile, combining an actual robot name with an aggressive moniker and slogan that chills the competition, and the build, with a time just under 45 minutes. The other four teams followed not far behind, all finishing in less than 50 minutes.
The best part is almost always the robot battles. This case was no different with all five teams battling vigorously, parts flying off, repairs made, and a multiplicity of balloons popped for points. We activated something new as well this event, something I have never done before, an all women’s round. I noticed some of the builders who happened also to be female, who had been instrumental in the successful building of the robot, were watching with glee but not taking the remote themselves to experience the action. The all-women-battlers round was successful in encouraging our VIP builders to jump in and go for it on the battle carpet!
The best part is that everyone had a really great time. Many folks opined to me that this was the best team building they have ever done, something I hear often, and that never grows old of appreciation. A huge thank you to Stripe for inviting us to the Airport Marriot in SF for a wonderful afternoon of fun and robot battles!
