Applied Materials Team Building at Regale Winery
An Applied Materials Team Building at Regale Winery took place in a beautiful outdoor patio overlooking the bay area. Four teams competed to build the robot faster than each other and for the World Record. The robot team building followed a pizza-making and wine drinking session, so a tough act to follow. It confirmed that the robots can be successfully built after consuming alcohol.
The Applied Materials group were looking for an experience to reward folks for an amazing year and help build on relationships, many of which had been started during the pandemic and were as to date only virtual. The robot team building was one of the ways they chose to stimulate interaction and provide something novel and engaging to make the day memorable.
Regale Winery helps with this effort as the mind easily wanders to dreamy thoughts amidst the tranquil and inspiring gardens surrounding the large and spacious patio. At times, only the soft breeze gently reminds us we are in fact in a time and a place.
The build times reflected a more casual approach to the robot building event where the emphasis was on the relationships. The fastest time was still 3 minutes faster then the average build time at 41:57, while the other two teams balanced out the mean.
The battles were vigorous as the granularity mixed into the stone patio surface made for above average robot flipping. The wheels gripped exceptionally well, allowing the fulcrum of the robot to pivot vertically much easier than surfaces that encourage wheel slippage. Add a little fine wine into the equation and you get exciting battles!
A huge thank you to Applied Materials for participating in our Robot Battles 1 team building event, and to Regale Winery for providing a magnificent venue for our event.
