A San Francisco Team-Building with Databricks at the The Clift Royal Sonesta Hotel was a smashing success.

Three teams from Databricks showed off their technical capabilities by all going sub-forty minute times. The winning team – pictured above – finished in a blazing fast, giga-giga, time of 32:54 (thirty two minutes and fifty four seconds) placing them 50th All-Time on our top World Record Times.
Our venue was an amazing hotel just two blocks from Union Square in a revamped hotel district featuring many upscale boutique hotels. The Clift Royal Sonesta was extremely pleasant with great staff ratios and smiling faces. The lobby was tranquil and modern, with a gigantic scale chair, think meant for a giant, for those that like that type of thing, and many chic yet comfortable places to relax.
Databricks is a company doing very smart things. They have hundreds of household names as global partners, and they are on a “mission to simplify and democratize data and AI, helping data teams solve the world’s toughest problems.”
They do this by combining the “best of data warehouses and data lakes to offer an open and unified platform for data and AI.” If you have large amounts of data, they can help you leverage the data using AI, machine learning, and just great teamwork.
They certainly lived up to their reputation by efficiently building the robots. 2 or 3 folks joined later in the build, so the teams started with only 4 people per team; making the achievement even more impressive.
We convened from the boardroom, where we had divided one large table into three building areas and my tool station, to an empty and open room next door. The hotel staff had freshly stocked the snack and drink tables, and we were able to use the whole room as our battle arena. Everyone had a chance to battle, and we had a last-bot-standing tournament and champion as well!
