Sunnyvale Burlingame Meta TeamBuilding
Two separate events in two well known bay area cities, Sunnyvale, Burlingame, Meta TeamBuilding was on full display.
Robot Build and Battle 1 was the star of both occasions. The competition for attention was tough, as both Meta campuses featured stunning architecture outside and within. For these two Meta groups, we superseded the other amazing things that surround them for a short 2 hours of joy, before receding back into the bay-o-sphere.
The team pictured on top won the build competition for the Sunnyvale Meta group with a time of 46:20 – pretty good considering they only had 4 people! We had 5 teams of 4-5 people each who specialize in personalizing our Feeds for advertisers. Based on my own Feed, I know they are very good at what they do!
I did get an easy answer to a household mystery: “How does my Feed know to advertise baking supplies and books to me when my wife talks to me about baking bread; can it hear us?” Have you had this experience? The answer is easier then you might think. Meta has access to all of our information within Facebook, so, for example, it knows I am married to my wife, and it knows she posts baking pictures and clicks on baking stuff in her feed, and therefore it doesn’t really have to hear us to make 2 + 2 = 4.
The battles for both groups were tremendous, with multiple rounds of battles and many points scored. The group pictured above, and below within the picture, kept their own tally on the white board walls! This is a great example of how the scoring goes within our robot battles, you can see this team had 10 points twice, 7 points twice, and 1 round with 5 points. Overall they had 9 robot flips, 9 balloons popped, and 3 push-outs. Although they did well, another team actually won the the “Last bot Standing” finale to supplant them as champions!
Worth noting is that this same team won the build competition with a time of 43:37 – more than 1-minute under the average build time!
A huge thank you for Meta inviting us out to two spectacular campuses, one of which included the Meta retail store which opened in 2022 on the Burlingame campus!
