Marvell Annual Robot TeamBuilding
The Marvell Annual Robot TeamBuilding yielded another World Record build time for the Robot Build and Battle 2 robots!
Team RDC finished the robot in a time of 32:40 (thirty two minutes and forty seconds), beating their previous record by almost four minutes! This was the fourth year in a row Team RDC has won the build competition. Professional BattleBots driver David Liaw of Malice leads this team each year. RDC broke the World Record last year beating the previous champion, Google, whose time of 37:37 gave way to the RDC 2023 time of 36:22!
This event is about much more than World Records. We had 14 teams building and battling robots! Each team is recruited weeks in advance and has aspirations to beating team RDC. Although this has remained elusive, the fun and quality robot builds are representative of how much folks enjoy the event each year!
Team names included Muscles of Steel, Circuit Slayers, B5G Warriors, Targaryen, PD GPT 2.0, Crusher Bot, Auto Bots, Robot Techs, Battlemen, Robo Rampage, Battle for Brownies, and Mecha Godzilla!
The battles were fierce as always with some folks having previous experience, and others battling for the first time. We had many robot flips, and scores for each round reached over 40 combined points. A winning score had to be 9 or more points! We had a minimum of 12 robots each round, and the finale featured all bots capable and able to battle at close to full strength! This is a testament to the teams ability to quickly repair the bots, and their knowledge to repair many points of damage.
