Holiday
Food Donation Golf
Teams build a holiday-themed mini-golf hole out of canned and boxed food, engineer it with a secret to beat the other teams, play the course, and then donate every item to a local food bank.

One holiday event, three wins
A real engineering challenge, a festive holiday party, and food for families in need, all in one afternoon.
Engineering challenge
Design a hole with a secret. A hidden line, a bank shot, or an uphill ramp gets easier with practice, and that is how teams win.
Holiday themed
Each team builds a hole around a holiday or tradition: Christmas, Hanukkah, Diwali, Lunar New Year, Las Posadas, or their own.
Food for families
All of the food goes to a local food bank, delivered during the holidays when the need is highest.
Custom holiday holes from around the world
Each team picks a holiday or tradition and turns cans, boxes, tubes and paper into a working golf hole. Here are six examples. Your teams will invent their own.
Christmas Tree Tunnel
The secret: A can-stacked tree with a tunnel through the trunk. Only a dead-center line clears it, and once the home team finds that line, they ace it.
Menorah Bank Shot
The secret: A dreidel blocks the straight putt. Bank it off the side wall at just the right angle and it drops in front of the menorah.
Diya Lights & Rangoli
The secret: A path lined with diya lamps leads to a rangoli that works as a funnel. At the right speed, the ball rolls straight into the cup.
New Year Lantern Gate
The secret: The lantern gate is narrower than it looks. The home team knows which lantern to aim at, and every other team learns the hard way.
Posadas Piñata Shortcut
The secret: Luminarias light the long way around. There is also a short tube under the piñata, and only the home team knows the angle that sinks it.
Snowman Slope
The secret: A steep uphill ramp: almost impossible on the first try, very makeable by the fifth. Practice wins this one.
Christmas, Hanukkah, Diwali, Lunar New Year, Las Posadas, a winter wonderland, or a tradition from your own team.
Every can, box and bag goes to a local food bank.
When the last putt drops, the course is boxed up and donated during the holidays, when the need is highest. Every package includes $500 to $2,000 of food.
How it works
Build
Each team gets a mat, food, cardboard, colored paper, tubes, and tape, and turns them into a holiday-themed golf hole.
Practice
Teams test their own hole and tune it. The home team learns the secret line before anyone else plays it.
Play
Everyone plays the course. Scores are tallied, the winning team is announced, and the food is boxed for the food bank.
How teams win: the home-hole advantage
Every team plays its own hole, and so does every other team. The winner is the team whose own score beats the visiting teams’ average by the widest margin. So the smart move is to build a hole that looks simple but rewards the team that knows its secret.
Organized tournament
Teams rotate hole by hole with scorecards, and a facilitator runs the leaderboard and the awards.
Casual holiday party
The course stays open while people mingle, grab a drink, and play at their own pace. Scores are optional.
