Google Team Building Mountain View
A Google Team Building Mountain View event was a huge success when members of the maps crew navigated building and battling robots. I often use Google maps to navigate to my events in the bay area including this one, so I felt compelled to return the favor with an accurate and effective event. It was a late starting time after 6:00 PM and ending after 7:30 PM, and maps members had been in meetings all day. The event had to be inspirational to garner their enthusiasm and keep attention focused in the 12th hour of daily concentration.
Luckily building robots and battling is almost universally an exciting and inspiring process throughout the bay area. In fact team Robo Chef posted a Top 10 All-time build time of 26:40 (twenty six minutes and forty seconds) in winning the build competition. More than a thousand teams have competed to beat the World Record so a top ten time is truly impressive!
Along with Robo Chef, teams 40mW, Plan Bee, Rainbow Sprinklers, and BenderĀ all built bots in impressive times and entered the battle melee. The bots were not only built fast but extremely well, allowing us to have over a dozen battles including a final lone survivor competition – also won by Robo Chef!
Mutiple rounds of combat also allow the drivers to have multiple opportunities to battle and therefore increase their skill significantly. We notice if drivers get a 2nd chance, or a third opportunity, their skills and effectiveness greatly increase.
The later the night went the more fist pumping and yelling from spectacular flips including several “arm only’ drag and flip or “backside flips” which are high level skill maneuvers.
A huge thank you to Google for hosting us at your Mountain View campus and keeping the energy going late into the evening!
