Google Teams Build Robots
Google teams build robots and battle each other! A small but highly talented group of robot builders assembled at the spectacular Pacific Shores campus.
Both teams finished below the 37:00 minute line, and the team pictured here finished 29th all time with a blistering fast time of 30:20 (thirty minutes and twenty seconds)!
The Pacific Shores campus is located just South of Bair Island and just North of Greco Island in Redwood City. Its at the end of a long peninsula on an isolated circular oasis. One can feel like they are immersed in a science fiction movie, or on a corporate inhabited island in the middle of nowhere. Stunning glass and steel buildings are arranged to form a friendly, if not imposing, campus feel, accentuated by a large softball field and basketball court.
Inside we built the robots in a serene setting highlighted by field grass blowing in the bayside wind outside oversized windows. In the distance, the blue from the bay frames the top of the view, reminding us of where we are located. Inside, the meeting room was spacious allowing for easy team robot building and for a centralized battle arena.
We battled 1 on 1 for several rounds, then we added a third robot to change the dynamic. We tried 2 on 1 and, every bot for themselves, and, as always, finished with a last bot standing battle.
The two best drivers went head-to-head in the finale. Everyone watched as skill met skill, and we witnessed offensive maneuvers with matching defensive adjustments. In the end we can only have one “last bot standing” and thus after several minutes of entertaining robot battling, our champion was anointed!
Congratulations to two amazing build times of 30:20 and 35:20, and an impressive 29th all time finish. Thousands of teams have attempted to build the robot faster since 2017, so making the top 30 is really something rarely witnessed. Great job!!!
