San Francisco Team Event LinkedIn Battle Robots
A San Francisco Team Event featuring the R&D Division at LinkedIn was a huge success as 7 teams built robots and battled each other. A new LinkedIn build record was established by team oWo beating the old record by just 10 seconds! oWo posted a time of 44:06 beating the previous LinkedIn record of 44:16 set on August 12, 2019 by Team Profile.
The countdown was extremely exciting as members of oWo rushed to put the final two bolts into the handles on top of the robot. Like all projects, things were inexplicably hard at the wrong time for apparently no good reason. Hats off to oWo as they calmly maneuvered the unaligned bolt positions, and in the clutch, one member used a screw driver to artfully leverage the robot hole into alignment; a move I had not witnessed before and that ultimately led to the record setting time!
Teams Caerus, Omnibotent, Battle Winner, Ultimate Gadget Commandos, Team Indestructible, and Consumer Comeback all built great robots in under an hour which led to some amazing battles. The first battle started out auspiciously with the little seen “double flip” coming just seconds into the battle; an event where both robots flip each other!
oWo managed to take one of the battle rounds before being bested by appropriately named Battle Winner which went on to win three of the melee competitions putting them atop the heap for overall victories.
Team Indestructible came up with the only Last Survivor victory, outlasting all of the bots in the final battle. As it turned out, it truly was a last survivor event as most of the remaining bots were beaten down to barely functioning, or non functioning status. One bot was artfully filleted in the middle of the arena, done.
A huge, gigantic, thank you to LinkedIn for inviting us to your beautiful downtown San Francisco office, and for making the event awesome with a DJ, giant blue fingers, and remarkably enthusiastic energy!
