NBA Team Building with TeamWorx Sand Sculptures
Asbury Park NJ is a wonderful place to enjoy the beach, and a perfect place for an NBA Team Building event with TeamWorx! The National Basketball Association, or NBA, is a professional basketball league comprised of 30 teams across North America featuring the best basketball players in the world.
We hosted the people that make the league great behind the scenes for a sand sculpture contest and team building and were impressed with the creativity and innovation displayed in the sand sculptures built. 5 teams of 10 people each – each representing a an international country or continent where the NBA has a presence – China, Mexico, India, Africa, and Canada.
Some interesting facts we learned through the sculptures and conversing were: The rims hang 10 feet from the floor, sitting on opposite ends of a court that’s 50 feet wide and 94 feet long. Both ends of the floor feature a free throw line, 15 feet from the rim, and a 3-point arc that runs from 23 feet, 9 inches from the basket at the top of the perimeter to 22 feet at the baselines. The corner 3-pointer has become one of the league’s most popular shots because of the difference The basketball itself measures 9 inches in diameter, and must be inflated to between 8.5 and 9.5 pounds per square inch.
We also witnessed some great teamwork as the teams built giant solid bases with water, sand, and pounding – over and over! Tough job but they were rewarded with excellent carving sand that they used to express their visions, innovate and be creative. Each team planned an initial creative sculpture, and then adapted, added, and subtracted as needed along the way. The final products were judged using a 5 part/50 point matrix that includes all aspects of sand sculpture building.
Mexico took the trophy in the end with a towering pyramid reminiscent of Mayan ruins, and made ultra creative and festive use of the lifeguards American Flag to seal the deal. Most importantly everyone had a great time, enjoyed the beach and ocean atmosphere, and worked together as teams to create something spectacular on the beach!
