Recent Redwood City Team Event
We hosted Facebook for a Redwood City Team Building at our local favorite Redwood City venue just over 10 minutes from the main campus at 1 Hacker Way. This was a sales group and eager to challenge the technical teams that have competed before them (and those to follow) for robot building supremacy. Specifically they had their eyes set on the Facebook record build time of 28:30 (twenty eight minutes and thirty seconds) set on July 12, 2018. With 3 teams competing they had limited opportunities. When the tools hit the tables 1 team had challenged for the record and got close, but, alas, ended up picking up the fourth fastest Facebook time of all time. Considering dozens of groups and hundreds of teams have competed, that is pretty spectacular!
Their time of 33:34 (thirty three minutes and thirty four seconds) ranks only behind the current record, the second best time and previous record of 32:30 set May 30th, and a time of 32:42 from September 20th 2017.
This makes the 4th team from Facebook to go below 35:00 minutes in over three years of competing.
The battles were even more exciting as everyone faced off against someone else from the department. The 2 minute battles were vigorous and unrelenting, with many going the distance. In the end Robot Sales Team (pictured above) walked away with the best build time and the championship team fighting award. We concluded with an all-bot melee which beat the robots into submission. We repaired and resurrected them several times until one arm literally fell off right at the 2 hour mark and we all thought – great timing! The competition was close with three teams scoring 9 points, 8 points , 8 points and a 4th rogue team – wild cat – with 5 points before the 10th and final point sent the arm falling off and the timely conclusion – right on time for the shuttle to arrive, pick them up and whisk them away back to Facebook land for more long hours pursuing their passions!
A huge thank you to the sales group from Facebook for a lively and fun build and battle session. We greatly appreciate coming out and working with so many talented people.
