Invitae Battles Robots in North Beach Team Building
North Beach Team Building at the Italian Club is an excellent way to spend an offsite afternoon, especially when your team is building and battling robots.
Invitae are experts in advanced medical genetics – helping us to understand our risks for disease in advance. They have an awesome mission which is to make these powerful tests and insightful information accessible and affordable to everyone who can benefit. We were inspired to help them build the best robots possible!
Six teams built robots at round tables overlooking Washington Square. Teams P-zero Firestorm, Bear Skulls, Skywalker, Death 2 Robots, Drunken Hyena Masters and NaN competed to build two different robots. In one of our rarest events – the mixed bot challenge – some teams built our Robot Battles 1 robot and some teams built our Robot Battles 2 robot. Team NaN won the small bot competition with a time of 39:42 (thirty nine minutes an forty two seconds) five minutes under the average build time.
Team Drunken Hyena Masters won the large build competition with a great time of 54:05 (fifty four minutes and five seconds) 6 minutes below the 1 hour average build time for Robot Battles 2 robots.
The battles were remarkably competitive despite the Robot Battles 1 bots being significantly smaller than the Robot Battles 2 bots. The smaller bots were able to deftly maneuver around and between, and at times spontaneously team up, to counter the size and strength of the larger robots. Although rare, we also had a small bot flipping a large bot sighting which drew the loudest cheers from the crowd!
The combination of Robot Battles in a truly unique and spectacular venue made for the perfect offsite experience for a group of highly talented genetic experts!
